Twitter Follow Along For The Ride

So I thought I would do a Twitter page just have something new and to try and reach out to a wider auidience of fellow gear heads.

If you have a Twitter account follow along @GrabbingGears and tweet away. I will be doing random post on Twitter of cars I see while I'm out and about to just what I'm thinking about.

Thanks for following and I will also do the updates of what car I'm on the hunt for and what I look at and if I buy it or not at Twitter first and then I will post here.

Project Vette

I thought I would do a small update since I last posted some ideas for the project Vette. I started looking at what I wanted to change and do to it and the more I looked at it the more I missed owning a classic car and a muscle car.

So over the weekend I sold my Vette and now I'm in search of something in the MOPAR world. I don't know if I want something that is all original or something I can clone and mod the car to my taste.

So stay tunned I will be doing something in the near future but this time I'm going back to my roots and back to Ma Mopar.

To Mod or Not to?

To mod or not to mod now that is the question?  That is one that I have been asking myself for a few weeks now after buying a 1996 Corvette LT-4.

I have always been a purist when it comes to rare cars and for the most part I have stayed true to just that. I owned a 1955 Bel Air that was all original and my thoughts were to cut the car up and make it into what I wanted it to be.

I couldn’t bring myself to cut the car up and do what I wanted. The car was way too original and had only one spot of rust. That was over the driver’s front fender at the headlight.

So I find myself once again at that cross road of having an all original car that just needs a good cleaning and a paint job. I also find myself wanting to mod it just a little or a lot.

I know a lot of people reading this will think it is just another C4 Corvette and they made so many of them why worry about it, just have some fun with it. My mind runs back to the fact that it is a one year only car.

The motor is pushing 330 horsepower backing it up with a six-speed transmission that just means a whole lot of fun.

The modifications that I have in mind as of right now are a set of different rims and BAER brakes. I can see the bright red color of the calipers shinning through the wheels with the fresh black paint on the body of the Corvette.

The rims I have in mind are black and chrome mixing in with the body lines of the Corvette it will set the car off. I then bounce back and think maybe all black rims but I see so many Corvettes that are all black with black rims and I scratch that idea.

The next mod that I’m thinking of is the hood. I really love the early sixties Stingray with the hood scoop and how it flows with the body lines and the C4 Corvette would look very nice with this hood. I have thoughts of the seventies LT-1 hood but not sure I would like it on a late model Corvette.

The rear of the Corvette is another area that I thought maybe could use a spoiler and I don’t mean a wing. I’m thinking of something that would be molded to the body of the car and fit in nice and neat. I like the clean look and feel of cars and the C4 Corvette has very clean lines.

The rear break light is also another area that I thought I would change and do something different. I would take some LED’s and make it say LT-4 when I hit the break light.

I really like the sound of the BOSE factory system but it can always be better and my whole goal with all of these modifications is to take something great and make it better.

I want to use all the original speaker placements but add a few more speakers and not have it interfering with taking the Targa top of the Corvette when I put in the back for top down cruising.

I don’t want the new sound system to take away from the main sound of the car. The notes that it will be singing with every hit of the gas pedal and that brings me to the exhaust system.

I really need to find what exhaust system will not only make the car sound great but breathe just right. I then need to do my research on what modifications will help the motor reach its peek performance.

So as I sit here writing this and thinking of what I want to do and I always come back to the same question. Do I or don’t I want to modify this 1996 LT-4 Corvette?

My answer to that is……..YES I DO!!!

12/29/11 Welcome to Grabbing Gears.

Welcome to Grabbing Gears the channel for every gear head. This channel is dedicated to everything automotive and anything that has gears. I will be taking a look and talking with owners of American Muscle, Sport Cars, Imports, Bikes and Planes.

Let's face it being a gear head myself; if it has gears in it I want to know what makes it tick and what can make it tick a little faster.

I will be taking a look at barn finds, restored cars, hotrods and everything modified. With that being said I want to again welcome you to Grabbing Gears.
